Hey Gav2k: I have been having the same problem for over 3 months. Follow the link below to a discussion on how to verify that it is a hardware issue and not a software issue.
Hi guys' and girls'
i have an ex470, currently the system is standard as its only been up and running for a week and i wanted to make sure the wife was comfortable using shared folders before i decided to upgrade the storage.
Anyhow i got up on wednesday to find the server was displaying system temps of between 70-80'c. tho the cpu was running at 28'c. i pulled out my infrared thermal gun and the whole system red below 50'c the psu having a hotspot wich is really to be expected.
So by mid-day i had powered down the server, and searched the internet to find a few otheres with the issue had been told its a software glitch and would be fixed in the long awaited june update.
Me being me i decided to contact HP they told me to take the unit back to where i had purchased it. I explained that pcworld here in the u.k do not take systems back they insist you contact hp for support or drop it into the store and they will rma the unit with upto a 6week wait to get it back.
I asked to talk to a supervisor as i felt i was banging my head off a brick wall, he told me not to take it back it was a software glitch and it would be fixed in the june update, just to wait and ignore the warnings.
So.....
Could you guys help me? has anyone had this issue?
Regards
Gav
ive read your thread bob, tho i did run speedfan when the issue first popped up. my temps are all 50'c and below in speedfan. system temp is reported as 180'c now lol.
If I was you Gav2k I would take it back to PC World (of course backing up all addins and files) then reformat it (so its clean) then go down the route of Sales of Goods Act and dont leave until they give you a new one plus some money for having to call HP up and all that such as getting out to PC World, that you are legally allowed to do under the Act.
Gav2k,
Totally agree- PC World seem to think that they are above the Sale of Goods Act, and are even trying to use the WEEE directive as grounds for refusing to accept goods back.Having become a relative "expert" in retail law (!!) and having used the small claims system against PCW, the trick is to go into the store with everything with you- printouts of the law (google it)and the phone number of consumer direct (OFT consumer helpline) programmed into your phone, so if the spotty desk oik or the manager refuse, you can pass them over to an OFT operative who can "re-educate" them on consumer's rights. BTW- I have been banned from my local PCW for doing this!
