OK - I'm obviously missing something simple!  I manage a MS Windows server farm with 400+ WinTel servers and oversee a staff of 5 server engineers.  I have 30+ years of experience in the IT industry.  And yet I can't seem to get access working for anyone other than myself to my Webshare website.

It works fine for me, but not for any of the various other WHS accounts I have created.  Whenever I test logging in with those accounts to my WHS system (an HP Ex475), I get a response of "An invalid username or password was provided.  Please try again."

Any guidance wout be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - Russ

Ok, let's get the obvious questions out of the way first...

  1. In WHS Console User Accounts tab, ensure "Remote access" is enabled for the user
  2. In WHS Console Settings tab, ensure "remote Access" is configured with "website ON", and router working with a DNS name.

Thanks John. Obvious questions are always a good place to start because sometimes they are more easily overlooked.

At any rate, yes... I have tried the user accounts with and without Remote Access enabled. Same results. The server thinks it is an invalid user name/password.

I do have one account that is working (1 out of 3) that I created for remote access. Sort of working... I can bring up the server with this account, but it, too, cannot access Webshare.

I've gone so far as to make sure all 3 accounts have membership in the same group (using the Computer Management MMC console).

I have deleted and recreated the non-working accounts numerous times. Oddly enough, nothing shows up in the server's Security Event Logs. I do, however, get an entry in the Homeserver Event Logs as follows:

**************************************************
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: HomeServer
Event Category: RemoteAccess
Event ID: 2051
Date: 6/17/2008
Time: 4:40:26 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ZZZZZ
Description:
Remote access logon fail. User XXXX LogonFail . Currently logged on users:
**************************************************

Color me perplexed!

I'm in exactly the same position as Russ. Just set up my HP MediaSmart Server and, after a bit if pain manually configuring port forwarding on my router, can now log in through the Windows Home Server log in page. I've configured ports for HTTP, HTTPS, and remote desktop.

However, I can't log in via the HP Webshare page and just keep getting 'An invalid username or password was provided. Please try again.' Clearly it's correct because Windows Home Server recognises it?

I'm a director of a UK software company and I agree with Russ, it shouldn't be this hard!

I'm hoping the upcoming PP1 update will jog something loose or twiddle a byte that will magically make this start working. Ever the optimist! :)

Facing the same problem here. Have set up two accounts which seem to work just fine both local and remote. But cannot set up any more that will get through the webshare logon screen. Invalid Logon or password is the response. Therefore unable to give others access to the photo webshare. Have created different user names and passwords and ensured remote access etc. is enabled - nothing! Any ideas emerging yet? This is rather fundamental!

OK so I looked in to the Webshare database and found that new users are not being added. Even though they appear on the Homserver console and Webshare settings. So the new users are just not recognised. I had to hack the database to get management of Photo webshare functional for the two existing accounts, so there must be a fundamental disconnect between the management console and the database. I don't know how to add new users manually to the database. Adding new users is something so fundamental HP should fix as a priority! John I

JohnI,  I am having the same problem.  Where did you find instructions on how to hack the sql database this information is stored in?
