I have Media Sharing turned on and all my wma files located in \\SERVER\Music. On a Yamaha A/V receiver I can see the Media Share located on the Home Server and play the music, but a percentage of the content is missing. On a Vista client, Windows Media Player has the same issue when it connects to the library, not all of the music is there and some artwork is missing. On the same Vista client, if I add \\SERVER\Music to the monitored folders, everything shows up as expected. I can toggle between the libraries and the content that is being provided by media sharing always has fewer CDs.

In addition, the library from media sharing is intermittent. It can disappear for weeks. Although you can see it, if you browse the network in Vista.

I am running an HP EX470. All Media Sharing services in the console are turned on. I have manually stopped and restarted Windows Media Connect service. Windows Firewall on the Vista client is OFF.

Anyone got any thoughts on this? Why is some of my music missing when I try to access it via media sharing?

Anyone? I am having the same issue and none of my media has Copy Protection, etc.

It may be that whatever is inside the file is not supported by Windows Media Connect (which is what is used to stream files on WHS). Grab a copy of MediaInfo (google it) and compare a file that shows up with one that doesn't. Change the view to text to get a full listing of parameters on the file.

Another thing to try is to use PVConnect instead of the default sharing. I believe that supports many more container/codec combinations.
