that's way better than "one" I currently have on my online storage
I love the staggered monthly/weekly/daily system...you probably don't need as many monthly ones...2 could be enough...but this seems like a straight forward default

Home Server offers a a lot of flexibility in how long many backups the server holds on to before it overwrites them. The default is 3 monthly, 3 weekly, and 3 daily. Is this too much or not enough?
How many do you hold on to?
I dropped mine down to 1/1/1 to save on disk space and also if I have a crash during the day, I have the backup from the night before.
I bumped mine up to 5/5/5 since I have plenty of space on my server. We are backing up 3 computers and they still only consume 72 GB of space for backups. Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it, right?
I agree. If you have the space, the more backups the better
. I’m looking forward to the "June Fix" which is supposed to allow for a backup of WHS itself to an external device. That’s the only piece missing from a backup perspective.
I can only backup one of my systems currently and it is the old laptop that I rarely use. I have 64bit Vista on my desktop and new laptop and I won't be able to back those up until the update is out.
I have it set to the default although one of my PCs has 1.5TB to backup(my TiVo Server), out of 3.75TB of space. But I also have 8TB of total space on my MSS.
8TB MSS(11 WD 750GB GP drives), CFI port Multiplier, 4 bay USB, 2GB, LE-1640
I am using 6-6-6...

MSS: HP EX475+1TB WD (2TB tot), 2 GB RAM, LE-1640, APC UPS
PC1: Vista/32 Ultimate w/150GB Raptor RAID-2 (C:) & 4x320GB RAID-5 data (D:)
PC2: Laptop, XP Home
When I first set up the backups for the WHS I went with the 3-3-3 default. I did do an initial manual backup and have it marked as KEEP. I have now backed down to 2 monthly, 3 weekly and 3 daily backups. I have had to use a full restore once for my desktop computer after installing a bad acting piece of software. The backup fully restored my PC. Since I don't make many changes or install new software very often, I am comfortable with this setup.
