HP today announced new server, printer and PC products designed and priced “just right” to deliver affordability and value to small business. At the top of HP’s new small business products line is none other than the ProLiant MicroServer.
The $329 / £220 MicroServer is powered by AMD’s Athlon Neo II N36L processor, running at 1.3MHz. 1 GB of PC3-10600E DDR3 RAM is supplied, although the server can support up to 8GB un-buffered ECC RAM across its two memory slots. The onboard SATA controller supports RAID 0 and 1 only (no RAID 5/6 options), and a single Gigabit LAN port is available for networking. Additional options include a DVD drive and remote access card. The four drive bays are accessible behind the MicroServer’s front grill, however they are not hot-swappable. This model is designed with Windows Server 2008 R2 or Red Hat’s Enterprise Linux 5, for businesses of 1-10 employees. However, it wouldn’t be a far stretch if a small business of 1-10 employees may want to implement the upcoming Windows Server Aurora on this economic server.
