Using the HP Photo Webshare on the HP MediaSmart Home Server (Page 1 of 4)

This article describes the steps to take to setup the HP Photo Webshare on the HP MediaSmart Home Server.

Do you have photos of the family or friends you want to share with them but, like me, don't want the whole world to see? There are many photo sharing sites on the web that will let you upload your photos to share with family and friends but also shares them with the rest of the world. The HP Photo Webshare feature on the MediaSmart Home Server allows you to setup a personal web address to securely share your photos with family and friends around the world "without" letting the rest of the world see. You can setup photo albums and then define users and groups to only allow people to view the photos you want them to view. They can then view and save the photos, upload photos to the Webshare (with the proper permissions) and create albums for you to see. It also works with Snapfish to allow for photo printing.

So let's get started......

When you initially setup the HP MSS, you should have gone through the HP Setup Assistant to setup your server. This included steps to enable the Photo Webshare and set it up for use. So first let's add some users and then we'll check the settings to ensure it's ready to use. Open the WHS console by double clicking on the WHS icon in the system tray. Log into the console.

The first thing to do is to add the users you want to share your photos with. Click on User Accounts.

Click Add (In this example I will add a user named Grandma). Fill in the requested fields and click the checkbox to enable Remote Access for the user. In the drop down box choose "Allow access to shared folders only" then choose next.

Enter a strong password for the user, then click next.

On the next screen just click on Finish.

Click on Done to finish the Add User wizard.
