How To Download CinemaNow Movies to Your MediaSmart Server (Page 2 of 3)

The second step is to enable access to CinemaNow downloads. The CinemaNow interface uses an active-X control to communicate with their Media Manager (the application that manages the download and license acquisition). By default Windows Home Server is configured to use Internet Explorer Enhanced Security mode. This mode will not allow an active-X control to run. Unlike Vista or XP where the IE configuration (security zones, etc) can be changed to allow active-X controls to run; with IE Enhanced Security, they cannot run at all. So, we need to remove the IE Enhanced Security controls. If you are concerned that this weakens the security of your Server, you should not proceed.

To remove IE Enhanced Security, perform the following steps:

1.      Start the Add/Remove programs control. Click Start->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs

2.      Click Add/Remove Windows Components on the left, then scroll down to Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration and click on the checkbox at the front to clear the checkbox, then click Next.

3.      It will take a short time to configure the settings changes. Click Finish to close the dialog; then close the Add or Remove Programs dialog.

You should now prepare a location for the downloading of your movies. Since we must use Windows Media Connect to stream protected content; your movies should reside in the Videos shared folder. The Videos shared folder probably already has folder duplication enabled. If not, you should seriously consider enabling this:

  1. Double click the Windows Home Server Console icon on the Desktop.

  1. Select the Shared Folders tab.

  1.  Double click the Videos entry.

  1. Click the Enable Folder Duplication checkbox, then click OK. Then close the Home Server Console and keep the Remote Desktop Connecton open.  If you are not able to check the box, a second hard drive needs to be installed to allow duplication.

To create a shared folder for your downloaded movies:

  1. On the remote desktop, double click the Shared Folders on Server icon and then double click the Videos folder.

  1. Then right click in the folder area and select New->Folder. I'd recommend calling this folder CinemaNow.
