The DGL-4500 works too.

Are you having problems getting UPnP Remote Access to work with your router? HP has created a list of recommended routers that best support UPnP configuration for easy remote access setup and functionality on the HP MediaSmart Server. This list was created through some basic testing in HP’s test lab, but this does not guarantee that they will always work as network configurations vary widely.
HP’s testing has shown that the recommended ten routers have consistently configured remote access directly out of the box using the remote access wizard on the HP MediaSmart Server without any user intervention. Here are thee top-ten routers HP recommends:
During this testing, HP has also found some routers that tend to fail both the automatic and manual remote access configuration with the HP MediaSmart Server. Here are the bottom six routers that HP does not recommend:
This testing was not completely comprehensive. HP has not tested every single router model, but a broad selection was made across multiple brands/models. There are undoubtedly many other router models that will work just fine.
The DGL-4500 works too.

the actiontec GT704WG from verizon also works right out of the box But the westell wireless router they have will not with that one you need to go into the setting and put them in to make it work

Do any of these that work have real VPN tunneling, not just passthru.?
I need a good router with VPN.
I hate the Netgear fvg-318 and FVS-318.
THX for any help.
I have a Netgear WGT624 and a Linksys WRT54GS and neither of them worked with UPnP. The WGT624 wouldn't work with manual configuration either however the WRT54GS is working after I manually configured it.
hermes said: Netgear WGT624 works very well too.I couldn't get my WGT624 to very well. Finally replaced it with a WRT54GS I had laying around.
After weeks of trying and hours on the phone with a nice chap called David Shale (Senior O2 Engineer) we've managed to get remote access to the MSS from outside the network!
If anyone needs a hand setting up an O2 Wireless Box II, shout up and I'll see what I can do.

Qwest is my ISP provider, I'm using Qwest 2 wire wireless modem and router. I did a test with window vista, it appears that router does not support UPNP. What can I do to bypass that. I talked to qwest, they told I must the Qwest modem in order for internet to work? my HP is working fine, I upgrade the processor, RAM, hard drive and everything is working fine but I don't have remote access. I feel like I did all this work for nothing.
any help will be helpfull.
I am using the WTR54G and it has worked flawlessly over the last three months. I tried to use the WTR54GX with the UPnP enabled I could not get it to work either automatically or manually configuring it following different suggestions I found researching it on the web.
After suffering with Belkin working every now and again I would appreciate some suggestions of an ADSL modem/router with 802.11n , the list up top seems to be just routers ( dont really want the mess of a seperate modem if i can).. i do like the look of the DIR855 though :)
I bought the Dlink DIR-655 router based on the recommendation from this article. I have been having extreme troubles with the router for internet connectivity. Whenever I have my 2 desktop computers connected to the DLink, I get internet connectivity. When I connect the HP MediaSmart Server, the internet connectivity goes down.
After hours and hours with Dlink technical support, they say that I need to disenable the DHCP server of the HPMSS because I am getting conflicts with the DHCP server in the router and that is why I am having connectivity issues.
Is this plausible? Can you tell me how to disenable the DHCP server in the HPMSS?
The MSS does not have a DHCP server running by default. Have you enabled one? Have you given your MSS a static IP address that is in the range that the DIR-655 is using for DHCP?
I also am having problems with my HPMSS and my AT&T 2Wire RG. Seems like the internet and network will get shut down from the RG randomly when the HP MSS is connected to the network. If I turn off the HPMSS and power cycle the switch, the other computers on the network can access the internet again. This has been very frustrating. It seems as though there's some sort of DNS conflict between the server and the RG. Can anyone help troubleshoot this issue?
I am decent with networks, but not too knowledgable with DNS and server management troubleshooting.
thx!
My router (Linksys WRT110 Multi-band(BGN), UPnP compliant) seems to have trouble too. I CAN remote to my MSS, but the network shuts down completely each time the MSS tries to auto-configure the router, for about 5-10 minutes. This happens FREQUENTLY, especially if I have the admin console open.
Everything works fine between auto-configure attempts. Any way I can shut down the MSS auto-configure attempts? Someone please tell me yes. I do not want to have to buy a used WRT54G...
UPDATE (4/10/09) - The following settings seem to work:
1. Static IP addressing within my home network (MSS and all PCs/Macs)
2. Keeping the wireless devices physically separated.
3. Resetting the router if internet/network is lost by any device.
4. Even with PP2, the auto configure remote settings on the MSS Admin console continue to fail to confirm remote access from "outside" the network - however I do have full access to the shares/pcs from a remote location.
This remains a problem. I have never had to restart the MSS to resolve the issue, but running the Mac and any PC wirelessly at the same time shuts the internet (and sometimes the network) down. Very frustrating if my wife wants to search the web on her Macbook while I am streaming a movie to my Xbox 360.

Hi
I am new here... Just bought a HPMSS 487 (3TB) and I am already having problems in getting UPnP Remote Access to work with my route (Netgear DG834PN)
I am willing to buy a new router but don't want to get one that will not work. I need the router to have:
1.ADSL built-in modem
2.Gigabit ethernet ports
3. Wireless N
Any recommendations please?

Linksys WRT150N v1.1 with DD-WRT v24. Bout' the best router combo that I have worked with for good price (refurb $42). Have worked with ISA and Cisco PIX and has many similar features, yet intuitive. UPnP worked fine with a few clicks. Did not even have to setup static IP for server.
BTW, this router also works very well with my t-mobile UMA/wifi.
This router does not have GB ports, but has N-wifi. Suggest GB switch in network. Finding an N-router with installed GB ports would significantly limit what would be available (for reasonable price).
